Harnham are working with a well-established automotive financial services business to appoint a Chief Credit Officer (SMF18). This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced credit risk professional to shape strategy, influence business growth, and lead a high-performing credit function.
THE COMPANY
Harnham are working with a regulated automotive financial services organisation that provides lending and financing solutions across a specialised consumer market. With an established presence and ambitious growth plans, the business offers a collaborative environment where senior leaders can influence strategy, drive commercial performance, and play a key role in shaping future success.
THE ROLE
This is a broad executive-level credit leadership role with responsibility for credit strategy, governance, risk management, and portfolio performance across multiple lending products. The successful candidate will sit within the senior leadership team and play a key role in balancing commercial growth with robust risk controls and regulatory compliance.

Specifically, you can expect to be involved in:
- Defining and delivering the overall credit risk strategy across retail, wholesale, and corporate portfolios.
- Leading credit policy, underwriting standards, and risk appetite frameworks.
- Overseeing credit decisioning, portfolio monitoring, stress testing, and risk analytics.
- Managing residual value strategy and ensuring alignment with market conditions and risk objectives.
- Engaging with senior stakeholders, regulators, and governance committees while leading a multidisciplinary credit team.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful Chief Credit Officer will have the following skills and experience:

- Significant senior-level credit risk experience within financial services.
- Strong knowledge of retail and/or wholesale lending, credit strategy, underwriting, and risk governance.
- Experience within motor finance or automotive lending environments.
- Understanding of residual value risk and its impact on portfolio performance.
- Familiarity with UK regulatory frameworks, including FCA requirements and senior management responsibilities.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and collaborating across multiple business functions.
- Strong analytical background with knowledge of credit models, IFRS9, and portfolio risk management.
- Exposure to tools such as SAS, SQL, Python, or similar analytical technologies is desirable.
BENEFITS
The successful Chief Credit Officer will receive a salary up to £160,000 as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
