Chief Data Officer
London or Southampton | 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract with a view to going permanent

Data is central to this strategy, and the organisation is investing in how it uses data, insight and AI to drive commercial growth, improve customer outcomes and strengthen decision-making across the Group.
About the Role
As Chief Data Officer, you will shape how the organisation harnesses data, insight and AI to drive growth, improve customer and adviser experiences, enhance operational performance and support the wider business strategy.
You will work closely with Executive Committee members, business leaders and technology teams, acting as a senior voice on data strategy, transformation, governance and the responsible adoption of AI.
The role will involve:
- Defining and leading the enterprise-wide data strategy, aligning investment with business priorities and measurable outcomes.
- Driving a data-driven culture where trusted insight informs strategic and operational decision-making.
- Building and leading a high-performing data organisation recognised as a trusted partner across the business.
- Establishing modern, scalable data platforms, architectures and engineering capabilities that support analytics, automation and AI.
- Creating robust governance, ownership and data quality frameworks that balance innovation with regulatory requirements.
- Shaping the foundations for responsible AI adoption through trusted, accessible and well-governed data.
- Influencing Board and Executive-level decision-making, acting as a trusted adviser on opportunities, risks and emerging technologies.
- Building relationships with regulators, industry bodies, partners and technology providers.
- Connecting data strategy to commercial growth, operational efficiency and enhanced customer outcomes.

About You
You will be a commercially minded data leader who understands that great data strategies need to translate into tangible business outcomes.
You will bring a proven track record of leading enterprise-scale data transformation within complex, regulated organisations and be comfortable operating at Board and Executive Committee level.
The successful candidate will bring:
- Executive-level leadership experience across data, analytics, information management or digital transformation.
- A strong track record of delivering measurable business value through data-led initiatives.
- Deep understanding of how data can improve customer outcomes, business performance and competitive advantage.
- Experience building enterprise data strategies, governance frameworks and operating models at scale.
- Expertise across modern data platforms, cloud technologies, self-service analytics and data products.
- A strong appreciation of how trusted data enables AI, automation and advanced analytics.
- Experience delivering complex transformation programmes across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Strong commercial judgement, including the ability to prioritise investment and demonstrate value realisation.
- Knowledge of data governance, privacy, risk and regulatory requirements within a regulated environment.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
