About The Company
Scottish Mountain Rescue is the national charity representing 26 volunteer Mountain Rescue Teams across Scotland, alongside the RAF and Police Mountain Rescue teams.
The organization is seeking its first Chief Executive Officer to lead its operational functions and support the Board in shaping the organization's future strategic direction.
The Role
The Chief Executive Officer will provide executive leadership across the organization, overseeing operational management while working closely with the Board of Trustees to support the charity's long-term strategy.
This role requires an experienced senior leader with strong management capabilities, stakeholder engagement experience, and a solid understanding of Scotland's public sector and policy landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership
- Lead the operational functions of Scottish Mountain Rescue.
- Provide executive leadership across the organization.
- Support the Board in developing and delivering the organization's strategic direction.

Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with volunteer Mountain Rescue Teams, RAF and Police partners, and external organizations.
- Represent the organization across Scotland.
Strategic & Organizational Development
- Support the long-term sustainability and growth of the organization.
- Help shape organizational strategy and operational priorities.
- Promote effective collaboration across the national rescue network.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in senior leadership and organizational management.
- Strong stakeholder relationship-building and partnership development skills.
- Good understanding of Scotland's policy and public sector landscape.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Scottish Mountain Rescue.

Requirements
- Must be based in Scotland.
- Must have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
Compensation
£55,000–£60,000 pro rata.
Time Commitment
Part-Time (0.8 FTE).
30 hours per week with flexible working hours.
Work Arrangement
- Home-based.
- Regular travel throughout Scotland.
