Chief Financial Officer — UK Small Modular Reactor Programme
United Kingdom · Reporting to CEO
A privately funded UK SMR developer is building the first of a planned fleet of small modular reactors, starting with a major site in the UK. This is not a government programme, and it is not being run like one, funding is coming from a mix of private and institutional investors, with a structure that includes a genuine community stake in the outcome.
This is not a conventional CFO brief. The job is not administering a capital budget — it's raising against a build that hasn't started yet, across equity, project finance and institutional money, and then holding the discipline once it's flowing.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for
- A finance leader with genuine experience closing private or institutional capital against a first-of-a-kind or pre-revenue asset — not just reporting on capital already committed
- Comfortable with the risk profile of an early-stage business: the first 6–9 months of this role are fixed-term, converting to permanent once the next funding round lands
- A generalist mindset over narrow specialism
- Genuinely motivated by the mission rather than by title or a conventional comp package
