Chief Financial Officer

PE-Backed | High Growth | Professional Services

Location: South West | Contract: Permanent | Hybrid

Job Reference: 32939

The Company

We are working with a high-growth, highly profitable private equity-backed business operating within the professional services sector.

With a strong regional market position, an entrepreneurial leadership team, and a clear value-creation strategy, this is an opportunity for a CFO to play a genuinely influential role in the next stage of the company's development.

The Role

The business is looking for a commercially minded, analytically driven CFO who can combine strong financial control with a genuine understanding of how the business operates and makes money.

A major part of the mandate will be developing the company's data and analytical capability. The business has significant operational data, and the CFO will be responsible for bringing this together into a clear single source of truth.

You will work closely with the CEO, Directors, and Board to turn data into insight, challenge performance, and support better commercial decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Alongside this, you will have full ownership of the finance function, including:

  • Management accounts, forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow
  • Board and investor reporting
  • Financial modelling and scenario planning
  • WIP, working capital, and cash conversion
  • Financial controls, audit, tax, and compliance
  • Leading and developing the finance team
  • Supporting strategic growth initiatives and investment decisions
  • Working closely with the PE investor on value creation and exit readiness

The Opportunity

This is a particularly interesting role for a CFO who wants to be close to the business rather than operating purely through a finance team.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Help shape the next phase of a high-growth business
  • Build the financial and data infrastructure required to support significant scale
  • Work directly with the CEO, Directors, Board, and PE investor
  • Influence commercial strategy and operational performance
  • Play a key role in the value-creation agenda
