Chief Financial Officer

Full-time | UK Remote | Circa £140,000

CFO role with a growing, private equity-backed UK technology business.

The company has a clear plan: keep growing organically, acquire complementary businesses and build a stronger group ahead of a future exit. It needs a CFO who has been through that journey before and who still enjoys being close to the detail.

You will work closely with the CEO, leadership team and investor. You will lead the finance agenda around acquisitions, funding, group reporting and exit readiness, while also helping improve the systems, reporting and commercial information used to run the business day to day.

What you will own

  • Help shape and deliver the value-creation plan with the CEO, COO and private equity investor.
  • Lead the finance work across acquisitions, including due diligence, funding, deal execution and integration.
  • Prepare the group for a future exit, bringing first-hand experience of a successful PE-backed transaction.
  • Own banking relationships, debt raising, refinancing and covenant management.
  • Lead group reporting, consolidation, external audit, forecasting and cash management across a growing multi-entity structure.
  • Strengthen management information so the leadership team can see what is happening commercially and act on it quickly.
  • Help modernise finance systems and processes, including a likely ERP implementation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The wider brief

The core CFO work will not fill every hour. Depending on your strengths, there is room to take ownership of one or two broader areas: Power BI and reporting transformation, risk and compliance, contracts and commercials, or wider operational improvement.

That is an important part of the role. The business is not looking for someone who delegates everything from an ivory tower. You need to be comfortable building a model, interrogating data, improving a process and working through the detail with the team.

What we need to see

  • Senior finance leadership experience in a private equity-backed business.
  • First-hand responsibility for a successful exit, ideally PE-to-PE.
  • Evidence of leading acquisitions, not simply supporting them from the sidelines.
  • Strong experience of banking relationships, debt raising, group structures, audit and consolidated reporting.
  • A hands-on, low-ego approach and a genuine interest in people, systems and how a business actually works.
  • Technology or cyber security experience would help, but it is not essential.

The kind of person who will fit

You will probably enjoy business as much as finance. You will be commercially curious, straightforward to work with and comfortable switching between a board conversation and the detail behind the numbers.

Culture matters here. The leadership team cares about its people and wants a CFO who sees supporting the team as part of the job. If your default is “who can do this for me?”, this will not be the right environment. If you naturally ask “how can I help make this better?”, it could be a very good fit.

Package: Circa £140,000 plus package. Exact working pattern and any bonus or equity will be confirmed during the process.
