As one of the most iconic names in motorsport, we design, build, engineer and race world-class race and road cars from our new headquarters at Silverstone, and we need exceptional people behind every part of that journey.
We have a fabulous opportunity for an experienced Chief Mechanic to join the growing, dedicated and talented Lola team as we embark on the exciting Gen 4.0 era of Formula E. The role of the Chief Mechanic is to lead the mechanical preparation, build, inspection, servicing and presentation of the Lola Formula E car for race and test events, ensuring all work is delivered safely, accurately and to the highest professional standard. Working closely with the engineering, technical and trackside teams, the Chief Mechanic will take ownership of mechanical operations, coordinate the car crew, maintain rigorous quality and sign off standards, and support the reliable, efficient and high-performance operation of the race car in a demanding motorsport environment.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead the mechanical preparation, build, inspection, servicing, repair, and presentation of the Lola Formula E car(s) for all race and test events.
- Plan and coordinate the work of the car crew, allocating tasks clearly and ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and to the required deadline.
- Take ownership of garage and pit-lane mechanical operations, maintaining a disciplined, efficient, and professional working environment throughout each event.
- Work closely with the Race Engineer, Performance, Controls, Systems, Tyre, and technical teams to deliver the required car specification and setup changes.
- Interpret technical instructions, build sheets, setup sheets, drawings, and work orders, ensuring the car is assembled and maintained exactly to specification.
- Lead fault-finding and mechanical rectification during sessions and between sessions, making structured decisions under time pressure to protect reliability and performance.
- Maintain rigorous inspection, torque, measurement, cleanliness, and sign-off standards, ensuring all critical work is checked, recorded, and traceable.
- Support the safe integration and operation of high-voltage and electric powertrain systems, working within the team's electrical safety procedures and authorised responsibilities.
- Manage the preparation, control, and maintenance of tools, equipment, spares, consumables, lifting equipment, and garage infrastructure required for events.
- Ensure race and test cars, spares, and equipment are correctly packed, transported, received, and prepared, supporting efficient international event logistics.
- Contribute to car reliability, continuous improvement, and preventative maintenance programmes by identifying recurring issues and implementing robust corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate build records, inspection sheets, fault reports, component histories, and post-event documentation, communicating key actions to the factory and trackside teams.
- Establish and improve mechanical operating procedures and best practices to ensure safe, legal, reliable, and high-performance car operation in line with team and regulatory requirements.
- Support long term car development and specification, contributing to performance reviews and project review meetings to ensure alignment across technical areas.

What We Are Looking For
- Self-motivated to lead, develop, and deliver the Chief Mechanic remit in a high-performance motorsport environment.
- A hands-on, practical, and evidence-based approach to problem-solving, coupled with a positive can-do attitude and a high degree of initiative.
- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and takes pride in delivering accurate, clean, and repeatable workmanship.
- Proven ability to lead a team of mechanics, set clear expectations, delegate effectively, and maintain high standards under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to give clear instructions, raise concerns early, and explain technical issues to engineers and team leadership.
- Comfortable making calm, structured decisions in a fluid and time-critical environment, while knowing when to seek input or escalate an issue.
- Works systematically and methodically, with a strong understanding of inspection, sign-off, configuration control, and safe working practices.
- Able to build effective working relationships across mechanical, engineering, operations, logistics, and performance groups.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the resilience to respond positively to changing priorities, unexpected faults, and demanding event schedules.
- Committed to teamwork and continuous improvement, leading by example and supporting the development of less experienced team members.
- Organised and dependable, with strong time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams to tight deadlines.
- Physically capable of working safely in a demanding garage, pit-lane, workshop, and event environment, including extended periods on feet.
- Demonstrates a strong interest in motorsport, electric vehicle technology, and the pursuit of performance through reliable execution.

Qualifications & Experience Required
- Relevant mechanical, automotive, motorsport, or engineering technical qualification, apprenticeship, or commensurate practical experience.
- Substantial professional experience as a motorsport mechanic, with proven experience leading a car crew or operating as a Senior or Chief Mechanic.
- Experience in Formula E, Formula 1, WEC, LMDh, IndyCar, Formula 2, or another high-level motorsport category is highly desirable.
- Strong practical knowledge of race-car mechanical systems, including suspension, steering, braking, wheel and tyre systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and composite components.
- Experience working around high-voltage electric powertrains, together with relevant electrical safety training or authorisation, is desirable.
Role, Location & Hours:
The role will be based at the Silverstone, Lola Facility, with regular travel required for Formula E race and test events. The successful applicant must be adaptable and flexible regarding working hours, including evenings and weekends, to support event attendance, vehicle preparation, and testing. A normal working week is 40 hours, 8 hours a day Monday to Friday, with additional race and test event commitments as required.
