Chief Nurse

Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (LSC ICB) is seeking an exceptional Chief Nurse to provide influential clinical leadership at a pivotal time for health and care across our region.

With responsibility for commissioning services for 1.8 million people and more than £5 billion of expenditure, we operate across a complex and diverse geography. Our communities experience significant variation in health outcomes and deeply entrenched inequalities. Tackling these inequalities, improving population health and ensuring our resources are focused where they can make the greatest difference are central to our ambitions.

We are reshaping the ICB and have a significant opportunity to rethink how health and care are delivered: accelerating the shift from hospital to community, from treatment to prevention, and towards services increasingly designed around people, families and neighbourhoods.

As Chief Nurse, you will have a unique opportunity to influence this transformation. You will provide system leadership for quality, patient safety and nursing, while helping us develop new models of care, strengthen engagement with our workforce and communities, and harness digital innovation to improve outcomes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

There is considerable momentum on which to build. Lancashire and South Cumbria is home to two national neighbourhood health pathfinders, and we are strengthening our relationships with local authorities and wider system partners. Major investment and infrastructure programmes, including two new hospital programmes, also provide an opportunity to think differently about the future design of services.

Our ambition is for Lancashire and South Cumbria to demonstrate what can be achieved through innovation, partnership and the ambitions of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan and our Chief Nurse will play a critical role in ensuring that quality, safety and the experiences of our residents remain central to our decisions as we address these challenges and transform services.

We are looking for an experienced, credible and ambitious nursing leader who can operate confidently at both strategic and system level. You will bring a strong track record of improving quality and outcomes and, crucially, sustaining that improvement. Your experience may have been gained across acute, community, mental health, system, provider collaborative or commissioning environments. What matters is your ability to understand the breadth and complexity of health and care and translate that understanding into meaningful improvement for our communities.

Your leadership style will be equally important. You will bring integrity, compassion and tenacity, alongside the ability to convene, influence and build strong relationships across a complex system. You will be comfortable holding people and organisations to account while creating the conditions for collaboration, openness and continuous improvement. Above all, you will ensure that the voices and experiences of residents, patients and communities are at the heart of how we make decisions and shape services.

This is a critical and highly influential leadership role, offering considerable scope to make a lasting difference to health and care across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
