Chief of Cardiothoracic Transplant
The Chief of Cardiothoracic Transplant is the named senior clinician for the specialty, providing strategic leadership, national representation, and accountability for quality, clinical governance, and the long-term sustainability of the service. The role has oversight to safeguard patient safety, improve workforce retention, and enable sustainable growth in transplant activity.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and national leadership for the cardiothoracic transplant service, representing MFT at national forums including NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), NHS England (NHSE) workstreams, and the Cardiothoracic Advisory Group.
- Work with the General Manager, Lead Nurse, and the wider team to ensure a safe, effective, and sustainable patient service, in line with national and locally agreed standards, whilst ensuring the efficient use of resources.
- Lead the clinical governance agenda for the service, ensuring robust arrangements for risk, audit, complaints, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead service development and strategic planning, safeguarding sustainability and enabling growth in transplant activity.
- Lead the medical workforce and education agenda across the service, working closely with the Clinical Director of Cardiac surgery and the Clinical Head of Cardiac services.
- Work with the senior management team within the Clinical Service to deliver agreed business and performance objectives.
- Contribute to clinical networks, both internally and externally to the Trust.
