How you will create an impact
The Chief of Staff (CoS) will act as a strategic partner to the CEO, helping translate Talbot’s goals and objectives into focused execution, enabling the successful delivery of strategic, financial, operational, and people plans. The role operates across Talbot and AIG to drive alignment, accelerate key priorities, improve leadership effectiveness, and ensure the CEO and leadership team are focused on the decisions and initiatives that will have the greatest impact.
They will be instrumental in enabling Talbot to deliver its business objectives across the AIG Group, effectively managing relationships with other stakeholders. They will also act in an advisory capacity to the CEO in matters relating to business management and leadership, strategy, communications, people management, and financial planning. They will be providing thought leadership, generating ideas, and driving initiatives to improve business performance and providing meaningful contributions towards resolution of day-to-day and ongoing management issues.
The position demands a high level of initiative and autonomy to add value, enable business growth, to take corrective action, and institute new processes, projects, and activities. With strong relationships across AIG, within the Lloyd’s corporation, and across the Lloyd’s market, the CoS will influence outcomes at a strategic level.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
CEO Leverage & Priorities
- Act as a trusted thought partner and sounding board to the CEO. As a confidante, discussion partner, and advisor to the CEO, this role will provide thought leadership; supporting creation of ideas and resolution of issues.
- Translate the CEO’s vision into clear priorities, decisions, and actions.
- Anticipate needs, identify risks, and develop solutions for the CEO to consider.
- Responsible for preparing and briefing the CEO prior to external meetings and/or events including; drafting talking points, speeches, briefing notes, or analysis.
Strategic Execution
- Strategic Execution; turn strategic priorities into executable plans with clear owners, milestones, and outcomes (leveraging project & programme management experience).
- Identify blockers and drive resolution across the business.
- Directly assist the CEO in all day-to-day operations, including a variety of complex tasks, and ensure the activities are aligned to business goals and priorities. Streamlining these activities and helping to ensure the highest quality of delivery.
- Identify and drive opportunities for change across the business.

Leadership Team Effectiveness & Organizational Influence
- Prepare the CEO and Leadership team for key meetings and decisions.
- Establish strong meeting rhythms, agendas, and follow-up.
- Support the CEO in managing the Leadership team’s effectiveness and dynamics.
- Ensure decisions are clearly communicated and acted upon.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead meetings, prepare information, monitor status of action items.
- Ensure leaders understand and remain focused on the most critical areas; challenges competing priorities and help to resolve where functions are pulling in different directions.
- Bring the right leaders together to resolve cross-functional issues; surfacing disagreements and competing perspectives.
- Structure discussions so the leadership team moves from debate to decision.
Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Act as an extension of the CEO when appropriate; credibly presenting to the leadership team or senior stakeholders as necessary.
- Draft or shape key communications, presentations, and Leadership materials ensure consistent messaging around priorities and values.
- Manage relationships with senior stakeholders, partners, or the Board where relevant.
- Maintain interdepartmental working relationships; identify priorities and organize daily assignments.
- Takes a lead in organizing/setting the agenda for corporate events and strategy off-sites as directed by the CEO and in collaboration with their Executive Assistant.
Business Planning Insight & Analysis
- Research, compile, analyze, and summarize data for special projects and/or reports; developing recommendations on strategic and operational matters as required.
- Anticipate, prioritize, and interpret business or operational challenges that may impede on the business objectives and recommend actions to address.
- Liaise with other departments on issues needing the CEO’s feedback/recommendation and develop strong relationships across Talbot and AIG.
- Provides insight, content creation, and project management support to the wider leadership team as directed by the CEO.
- Act as a physical presence and representative of the CEO’s office and acts as a key point of contact or referral for the CEO and their employees.
- Supports the CEO, CFO, and other members of the executive team to develop high-quality business strategies and financial plans ensuring their alignment with short-term and long-term AIG business objectives.
- Works collaboratively with the CEO and members of the leadership teams to drive and monitor business performance and financial results consistent with the plan objectives.
What you’ll need to succeed
- Extensive experience partnering closely with a CEO or Senior Executive with similar high-profile positions.
- Strong commercial and strategic acumen, with the ability to quickly understand business drivers.
- Strong experience facilitating senior leadership meetings, teams, and driving decision-making.
- Deep knowledge and experience of delivering commercial impact within the insurance industry.
- Experience of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.
- Program / Project Management experience.
- Extremely strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills (internal & external).
- Expert at influencing, building rapport, challenging, and holding senior leaders and stakeholders accountable both verbally or in writing; brings people on the journey with them whilst creating clarity.
- Experience operating effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous, and evolving environments – navigating conflict and difficult situations.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to deal with multiple priorities and deal with change in a proactive and positive manner.
- Creative problem solver and lateral thinker.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
