Chief Risk Officer (SMF 4)
Our client, a leading UK regulated bank and forming part of a major international banking group, is seeking a Chief Risk Officer (SMF 4) to report directly to the CEO. This is a key executive appointment with significant influence at Board and Group level. As the Bank continues to pursue opportunities for sustainable growth, the Chief Risk Officer will play a pivotal role in shaping its strategic direction, leading the independent risk function and ensuring that commercial ambition is supported by sound judgement, effective governance, and a strong, forward-looking risk culture.
Role Overview
We are seeking an established senior banking professional with substantial executive-level experience and deep financial risk expertise, particularly across credit and portfolio risk, capital, liquidity, and wider prudential matters. Whilst the remit encompasses the full breadth of enterprise risk management, a strong technical grounding in financial risk, coupled with an understanding of the UK banking regulatory framework, will be fundamental to this appointment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
