Chief Engineer – Maritime Defence

Permanent
Salary negotiable, circa £120,000

Copello is working in partnership with an established marine technology organisation that is expanding its presence and capability within the UK Defence sector.

As part of this growth, we are looking to appoint a Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership, engineering assurance and governance across a portfolio of complex maritime and subsea programmes.

This is a senior and influential position, acting as a Technical Authority within the organisation and providing confidence that engineering activities, technical decisions and solutions meet the required standards throughout the full engineering lifecycle.

The Role

The Chief Engineer will take overall responsibility for engineering assurance across key programmes, working closely with engineering teams, programme leadership, senior stakeholders and the customer.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a senior Technical Authority across complex maritime and defence programmes.
  • Providing overall engineering assurance, governance and technical oversight.
  • Ensuring appropriate engineering processes, standards and controls are applied throughout the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Providing technical leadership across systems, integration, design, development, verification, validation and acceptance activities.
  • Reviewing and challenging technical decisions, engineering risks and programme assumptions.
  • Supporting technical reviews and ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, robust and appropriate for their intended operational environment.
  • Working closely with customers and stakeholders across the UK Defence community.
  • Providing technical guidance and leadership to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Supporting the continued development of engineering capability, processes and technical governance as the organisation grows.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
