Role Overview

We are currently looking for a Chief Technologist – Synthetic Therapeutics to join a leading organization dedicated to advancing innovative drug development. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior scientific leader with expertise in peptides, oligonucleotides, and conjugation technologies to help build and shape a new capability within a high-profile research facility.

Based at our client’s Glasgow-based facility, the role offers a unique chance to influence the strategic direction of synthetic therapeutics, develop cutting-edge processes, and establish market credibility. The appointment is initially on a fixed-term contract of approximately 20 to 21 months, with the potential for long-term permanence for the right candidate.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Your duties as the Chief Technologist will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Act as the technical expert and strategic leader for peptide and/or oligonucleotide chemistry, including synthesis, modification, conjugation, and delivery-enabled constructs.
  • Shape the future technology strategy by identifying capability gaps, market trends, and investment opportunities.
  • Translate technical insights into commercially relevant propositions and deliverable plans.
  • Support the development of scalable, high-value capabilities in line with market needs.
  • Build and influence an external network of stakeholders, representing the organization in forums and industry collaborations.
  • Work with commercial colleagues to assess and develop new project opportunities.
  • Mentor colleagues and promote knowledge sharing within the organization.
  • As the Chief Technologist, you will lead efforts to establish and grow internal expertise while supporting external reputation and partnerships.

Role Requirements

To be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Chief Technologist – Synthetic Therapeutics we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

  • A Degree or higher level in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Quality Assurance, Quality Management).
  • Proven expertise in oligonucleotide chemistry, ideally alongside strong peptide chemistry experience, including conjugation, synthesis, or modification.
  • Experience translating peptide and/or oligonucleotide chemistry into scalable, commercially relevant capabilities.
  • Background in pharma, biotech, CDMO, or a specialist synthetic chemistry environment.
  • Evidence of senior strategic leadership, able to influence stakeholders and shape technical direction.
  • Strong external network in peptides, oligos, synthetic therapeutics, or related areas.
  • Willingness to be based at the Glasgow facility and to engage in a fixed-term contract with long-term potential.
