Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – National Charity Transformation
Ready for What’s Next? 🚀
At Practicus, we are exceptionally proud to be exclusively partnering with a highly respected national charity undergoing a bold and exciting transformation. At the heart of their journey is a commitment to becoming outward-looking, digitally enabled, and future-ready. To help drive this evolution, we are managing the search for a pivotal new role: Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
This is a rare opportunity to shape and lead a modern, resilient technology function that directly supports critical frontline services across the UK. As our client moves towards their 2030 strategic goals of delivering life-changing outcomes and building a millions-strong national movement, they require a technology backbone that is as resilient as it is innovative.
The Role 💼
As CTO, you will shape and deliver the technology vision, ensuring the organisation has the right platforms, architecture, and partnerships in place to support innovation at scale. Reporting to the CFO and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, you will be fully accountable for the charity's entire technology backbone.
We are looking for a strong, inspirational leader with a highly collaborative approach and the executive presence and conviction to drive lasting change. You will spearhead a vital culture shift within the technology function, focusing heavily on delivering value for money, commercial acumen, and financial fluidity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

What You Will Lead & Deliver 🎯
- Transformational Change Leadership: You will manage a long-standing team, helping them to transition away from legacy mindsets and bringing them fully on the journey of transformation.
- Leadership Energy: Our client needs a leader who drives action. You must demonstrate a track record of inspiring teams through ambiguity and driving tangible technology adoption, rather than just writing strategy.
- Strategic Partnerships: You will critically evaluate the vendor ecosystem to answer a key question: Do they have the right tech stack partners and relationships to set them up for success?
- Operational Discipline & Cyber Confidence: Serve as the final authority on live IT service readiness and risk. You will instil strict operational discipline and ensure absolute confidence in the organisation's cybersecurity posture.
- Modern Tech & AI Innovation: Champion practical AI exposure and the implementation of modern technology. Note: Our client is a Google-first organisation, so a strong understanding of the Google ecosystem (as opposed to strictly Microsoft) will be a significant advantage.
- Relationship & Influence Style: Act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Team and Board of Trustees, demonstrating the ability to build trust quickly across both non-technical stakeholders and technical teams.
