Interim Chief Technology Officer – Fractional Engagement
Contract: Six months – Outside IR35
Location: Hybrid – Central London and remote
Nigel Frank is supporting a rapidly growing, technology-led organisation with the appointment of an experienced Interim Chief Technology Officer for a fractional six-month engagement. The business is expanding quickly across multiple international locations and needs a proven technology leader to assess its current capability, establish a clear strategic direction and ensure its technology function can scale effectively alongside its growth.
The most important requirement is genuine scale-up experience. You must be able to demonstrate how you have previously helped a technology-led business navigate significant growth and built the strategy, structure and capability required to support it.
The Assignment
- Assess the existing technology environment, operating model, capabilities and risks.
- Develop a practical three-to-five-year technology strategy and roadmap.
- Ensure systems, platforms, architecture, data and processes can support continued growth.
- Review the structure of the technology function and advise when and how teams should expand.
- Establish scalable technology governance and operating practices.
- Assess technology, data and security risks and introduce appropriate controls.
- Work closely with the existing leadership and technical teams to turn strategy into practical plans.
- Provide strategic direction while remaining willing to work hands-on where required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
