Build and shape the technology strategy as first CTO

Meaningful equity in a high-growth PE-backed business

About Our Client

Our client is a private equity-backed EdTech business in Yorkshire, currently generating c.£8m revenue with ambitious plans to scale over the next three years.

Technology sits at the heart of this growth strategy, supporting customer acquisition, retention and operational scalability across both B2B and B2C markets. With an established platform, strong market proposition and potential future funding event on the horizon, this is an opportunity to join the executive team at an important stage in the company's growth journey.

Job Description

As the business's first dedicated CTO, you will take ownership of the technology strategy, engineering function and roadmap, ensuring technology becomes a genuine enabler of the next phase of growth.

Leading an established team of approximately 10 technology professionals, you will provide the technical leadership, structure and direction required to scale effectively without unnecessary complexity or wholesale re-platforming.

Key priorities will include:

  • Define and deliver a technology roadmap aligned to the three-year growth strategy.
  • Ensure the platform remains scalable, secure and resilient as customer volumes increase.
  • Simplify and optimise a complex landscape of bespoke B2B customer integrations.
  • Strengthen engineering practices, product delivery and release management.
  • Improve platform versioning and the rollout of new products and content across the customer base.
  • Develop the business's approach to data, security and technology governance.
  • Define and execute an AI strategy, using AI to improve engineering productivity, accelerate delivery and create greater capacity without materially increasing headcount.
  • Build a high-performing engineering culture that embraces innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the executive team and investors, translating technology investment into commercial value and supporting the longer-term value creation plan.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
