Chief Technology Officer
Location: London (3 days per week), hybrid
Job type: Permanent
Salary: £150,000 – £200,000 base, plus equity, bonus, benefits and wider package
We are partnering with a profitable, high-growth consumer FinTech business to appoint a Chief Technology Officer as it enters the next phase of its development.
The business has built a highly scalable, technology-led consumer finance platform and established a strong position within the UK market. It combines lending, data, Open Banking and a digital customer experience to help consumers better understand, manage and reduce the cost of credit.
Having successfully scaled the core business with a relatively lean organisation, the company is now entering a significant new phase of product, technology and commercial growth.
This will include the development of new digital propositions, further investment in AI and automation, continued expansion of the engineering organisation and, over time, international growth.
The CTO will be a critical member of the senior leadership team and will take ownership of the technology strategy, engineering organisation and delivery capability required to support that ambition.
This is not a pure architecture or technical oversight position. The business is looking for a commercially minded technology leader who can build teams, increase delivery velocity, work closely with Product and Credit, and translate an ambitious commercial strategy into a highly effective technology roadmap.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO, the CTO will take responsibility for technology and engineering across the organisation.
You will inherit an established technology platform, an expanding engineering team across the UK and India, and strong technical capability already within the business.
The priority is to build the leadership, structure and operating model around that capability to enable the company to move faster.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Own and develop the overall technology and engineering strategy.
- Translate business and product priorities into a clear and executable technology roadmap.
- Build a high-performing engineering organisation capable of supporting significant business growth.
- Develop the structure, processes and leadership required to improve engineering productivity and delivery velocity.
- Lead and develop engineering teams across the UK and India.
- Ensure technology remains scalable, resilient, secure and appropriate for a regulated consumer finance environment.
- Partner closely with Product, Credit, Data, Operations and Compliance.
- Take ownership of technology delivery against key commercial and product milestones.
- Establish clear accountability across software development, testing, deployment and customer validation.
- Continue to develop an AI-native engineering culture, using AI throughout the software development lifecycle to improve quality, speed and efficiency.
- Evaluate where AI, automation and emerging technologies can materially improve both the customer proposition and internal operating model.
- Support the development and launch of new consumer products and revenue streams.
- Work directly with the CEO, executive team, board and investors on technology strategy, investment and delivery.
- Build strong relationships with external partners and technology suppliers where required.
- Recruit, retain and develop exceptional engineering talent.
- Ensure the organisation can continue to scale without creating unnecessary complexity or headcount.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an established technology leader who combines strong technical credibility with commercial judgement and genuine scale-up experience.
You are likely to have operated as a CTO, VP Engineering, Engineering Director or senior technology leader within a high-growth consumer technology business.
The strongest candidates are likely to demonstrate:
- Experience leading technology within a high-growth start-up or scale-up environment.
- A strong background within consumer technology.
- Experience within consumer lending, credit, FinTech or another closely related regulated financial services environment.
- Experience building and scaling engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering and cloud-based technology environments.
- Experience owning technology delivery rather than operating solely as an architect.
- The ability to translate commercial objectives into technology priorities.
- Strong understanding of consumer-facing digital products and mobile applications.
- Experience working closely with Product, Data and commercial leadership.
- Strong understanding of AI-assisted software engineering and how AI can be embedded across an engineering organisation.
- Experience improving engineering productivity, delivery standards and speed.
- Confidence operating with founders, CEOs, boards and investors.
- Experience recruiting and developing senior technology talent.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technology decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience operating within a regulated environment.
Direct experience within consumer lending or credit would be highly advantageous.
Candidates coming from digital banking, consumer FinTech, lending platforms, credit businesses or similarly regulated consumer technology environments will be particularly relevant.
Leadership Profile
The organisation already has strong technical capability.
What it now requires is a leader who can bring that capability together and build the technology organisation required for the next stage of growth.
You will therefore need to be:
- Commercially minded rather than technology-led in isolation.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-moving scale-up.
- Pragmatic and delivery focused.
- Technically credible enough to challenge engineering decisions.
- Comfortable moving between strategy and execution.
- Able to attract and develop exceptional people.
- Highly comfortable with AI and the rapidly changing engineering landscape.
- Capable of challenging the executive team while remaining collaborative.
- Comfortable making decisions with imperfect information.
- Motivated by building rather than maintaining.
