Chief Technology Officer

The company
Our client has been building project and portfolio management software since 1999 and works with some of the world's largest product development and innovation companies, giving them clear visibility across every project they run: what's on track, what's at risk, where investment is going and how it all supports their strategy.
Their enterprise level clients include: household-name beauty and consumer brands who use their solution to manage tens of thousands of product launches. Public sector teams who use it to run major capital programmes, from new hospital builds to major refurbishments. A global logistics business who uses it to roll out change across thousands of locations, and many others.
One thing that sets the company apart is the depth and longevity of their client partnerships. The platform has been built with flexibility and configurability as key principles, and the team works closely with each client to build tailored workflows and integrations that become central to how they operate. It means that they have a loyal client base which they are consistently expanding.
The new CTO will inherit a newly rebuilt product, ISO 27001 certified infrastructure and a talented team of DevOps, QA and development engineers. They are now looking for the right person to lead the technology function into its next stage of growth.
The role
Reporting to the CEO with a seat on the board, you'll own the full technology function: strategy, architecture, engineering, DevOps, security and compliance.

In your first few months you'll:
- Take ownership of the current development programme and maintain delivery momentum
- Build trust and credibility with the engineering team
- Coach the team leads as they take greater ownership of sprints and releases, stepping back from day-to-day detail while remaining accountable for what ships
- Act as the technical lead for enterprise clients, confidently handling security and data discussions with their senior technical teams
- Build strong relationships with commercial and product colleagues to effectively balance client demands, the strategic product roadmap, and engineering capacity
- Give the board clear visibility of technical priorities, progress and risk
Longer term, you'll:
- Develop a technology strategy and roadmap aligned with the company's commercial goals
- Establish clear ways of working between sales and engineering, covering prioritisation, realistic delivery commitments and technical input into bids
- Ensure the architecture, documentation, security and team meet the standards expected by our enterprise clients
- Lead the approach to AI, both within engineering and potentially in the product, with clear governance and quality control
- Set the direction for the companies AWS infrastructure making sure it stays secure, performant and economical while day-to-day management sits with the team
The tech stack: Python/Django back end, Angular front end, Kubernetes on AWS, Terraform, Helm and GitLab CI/CD. Experience with this stack is helpful but not essential.
Who we're looking for
You'll bring:
- CTO or senior technology leadership experience in B2B enterprise SaaS
- Strong technical credibility with complex SaaS architecture, with the depth to spot when something isn't right, even when you're not writing the code yourself
- A clear understanding of what ISO 27001 compliant and secure looks like, and confidence discussing it with highly knowledgeable, enterprise infosec teams
- Experience delivering under release cycle pressure
- A track record of coaching, delegating and developing engineers into more senior responsibilities
- A grounded understanding of AI and LLMs, including where they add value and where they don't, and experience guiding a team through adoption with clear quality controls

The process
An initial screening call with Above & Beyond, a technical interview with the current CTO (including a live system design discussion), a meeting with the board and a final conversation with the engineering leads you'd be working alongside.
