Enhanced £45,000 Recruitment & Retention Package

This post attracts an additional £45,000 Recruitment & Retention payment, structured over three years:

  • £15,000 on appointment
  • £10,000 after 12 months
  • £10,000 after 24 months
  • £10,000 after 36 months

The package is pro rata for part-time employees and subject to the applicable terms and conditions.

The role

As Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, you’ll provide senior psychiatric and clinical leadership within our specialist inpatient CAMHS service.

You’ll:

  • Provide clinical leadership to a skilled and compassionate multidisciplinary team
  • Lead the assessment and treatment of young people aged 13–18 with complex needs
  • Lead on formulation, risk management and treatment planning
  • Work closely with young people, families, carers and partner agencies
  • Provide specialist psychiatric expertise using a bio-psycho-social approach
  • Support collaborative and evidence-based clinical decision-making
  • Supervise junior doctors and trainees
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
  • Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement
  • Support research and service evaluation activity
  • Contribute to the continued development and redesign of the inpatient pathway
  • Participate in the CAMHS Consultant on-call rota, currently 1:9, with allowance for compensatory rest

Who can apply

You’ll need:

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility within six months
  • Good standing with the GMC
  • Approved Clinician status, or ability to achieve this within three months
  • Excellent specialist clinical knowledge
  • Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and broad medical knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work within and lead multidisciplinary teams
  • A valid UK driving licence and willingness to use it for work, or evidence of a suitable alternative

We’d particularly welcome:

  • Experience or expertise in:
    • A broad range of specialist or sub-specialist experience relevant to CAMHS
    • Planning and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
    • Clinical research or service evaluation
    • Clinical audit and quality improvement
    • Leading audits resulting in service change or improved patient outcomes
    • Education, research or service improvement activity, including presentations or publications
    • Shared leadership and collaborative working
    • Using and critically appraising clinical evidence
    • Participatory approaches to care, formulation and shared decision-making with young people and families

Shape the future of inpatient CAMHS

This is more than an established clinical Consultant post. The inpatient service is entering an important period of strengthening, innovation and redesign, giving you the opportunity to influence how the pathway develops.

You’ll work with an established multidisciplinary team and supportive leadership group, drawing on best practice, national standards and collaboration across CAMHS to help develop high-quality inpatient care.

There is also flexibility around how the role could work. We’re open to bespoke job planning and flexible working, including exploring a shared post across the Children & Young People’s Inpatient Mental Health Unit and COAST CAMHS Acute service, where this supports service continuity, quality and individual preference.
