Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Kidswell Health is looking for a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, prescribing, and medication management for children and young people.

This is a flexible sessional role that can fit around existing NHS, academic, or private practice commitments.

Location: Hybrid / flexible. Clinics can be delivered from Kidswell Health Golders Green, with remote sessions available where clinically appropriate.

Pay: £130 per hour equivalent, subject to experience. Paid on a ‘per appointment’ basis. Typical session length is 5 hours per week but can vary depending on availability.

Join a growing, multi-disciplinary team of 17+ clinicians across psychiatry, clinical psychology, psychotherapy, paediatrics, and developmental therapies (OT, Physio, Speech).

The role

You’ll assess, diagnose, and treat children and young people across a range of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental presentations. A key part of the role is prescribing, monitoring, and managing psychotropic medication in line with best practice.

You’ll work alongside our psychologists and neurodevelopmental assessors, contribute to weekly MDT discussions, and help shape how the service develops.

What you’ll do

  • Conduct psychiatric assessments covering developmental, emotional, and behavioural presentations.
  • Diagnose and treat anxiety, depression, and related mental health concerns.
  • Support the assessment and treatment of neurodevelopmental concerns, including ADHD, where appropriate.
  • Develop treatment plans and prescribe, monitor, and manage medication in line with best practice.
  • Carry out risk assessments.
  • Provide psychoeducation to children, young people, and families.
  • Liaise with GPs, therapists, and educational professionals for coordinated care.
  • Keep accurate, confidential records in line with regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to weekly MDT and to how we develop the service.

Essential

  • Medical degree, full GMC registration, and CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or equivalent.
  • Clinical experience with children and adolescents in a mental health setting.
  • Strong diagnostic and treatment-planning skills.
  • Able to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Clear, sensitive communication with children, young people, and families.

Desirable

  • Experience in private or independent healthcare.
  • Additional training in evidence-based therapies, such as CBT, DBT, or family therapy.
  • Experience working alongside schools and community services.
  • Familiarity with CQC requirements.
