Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer

The Role
We are looking for an experienced and child centred Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer to join our People & Culture team. You will operationally lead the development, delivery and evaluation of the Club's child wellbeing and protection strategy, demonstrating our commitment to creating an environment where children and young people can feel safe, happy, valued and included.
As the recognised point of contact for all safeguarding concerns across the Club, you will work closely with our Academy, Player Care Team, Board and a wide network of external partners to promote, support and protect the wellbeing of every child and young person involved with Rangers.
Key Responsibilities
- Operationally lead the implementation and delivery of safeguarding across the Club, ensuring compliance with Scottish FA and other ANA measures, policies and procedures and all statutory obligations.
- Develop, implement and regularly review the Club's Child Wellbeing & Protection policies and procedures, communicating updates to all relevant departments and colleagues.
- Act as Lead Signatory with Disclosure Scotland, training and guiding countersignatories, and coordinate Access NI, DBS and other relevant police checks for staff and volunteers working outside of Scotland.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to all safeguarding concerns, allegations and disclosures reported to the Club, in line with Club policies and procedures.
- Lead investigations into any matter relating to children and young people at risk of harm, maintaining accurate, confidential and securely stored records in line with data protection legislation.
- Maintain the Risk Register and work with the Safeguarding Panel and the People & Culture department to manage safer recruitment, including the Club Recruitment & Audit Tracker.
- Support the Club Director with responsibility for child wellbeing & protection to provide the Board with regular reports on safeguarding activity and risk, and support the Board to take a children's rights-based approach.
- Design and deliver regular child wellbeing training, support and guidance for staff, volunteers, consultants and Board members.
- Build effective relationships with external partners including local authorities, Police Scotland, the Scottish FA, Rangers Charity Foundation, Children 1st, Disclosure Scotland and social work services.
- Support relevant departments and the Board Director for Child Wellbeing & Protection to meet the criteria required for club licensing audits.
- Create opportunities for children and young people to have their voices heard through the Academy Youth Panels and Fans Groups, and support the Parent Panels to advise on areas for improvement within the Academy.
- Identify, recruit and manage Academy Host Families, ensuring young players living away from home have a safe, comfortable and stable living environment.
- Carry out comprehensive safeguarding risk assessments and support the Player Care Team and Academy Education Executive in safeguarding children's wellbeing.
- Be contactable and available to support staff, children and young people outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.

The Candidate
The candidate attributes include:
- Experience of working directly with children and young people, with a child centred, rights-based approach.
- Experience of Child Wellbeing & Protection policy and procedure development, implementation and review.
- An expert level of knowledge and understanding of safer recruitment practices.
- Knowledge of the Scottish FA Child Wellbeing strategy, policies and procedures.
- Experience of investigating concerns, compiling evidence and report writing.
- Experience of designing and delivering training on a range of safeguarding topics.
- Experience of offering child wellbeing and protection advice and support to colleagues, children and young people and their parents/carers.
- Strong listening and interpersonal skills, with the integrity to handle sensitive situations and the confidence to challenge opinion where necessary.
- A firm commitment to confidentiality and data protection.
- The ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure, meet deadlines and respond calmly to the unexpected.
- A flexible approach to working hours and a willingness to travel, including overseas, as required.
- Competent in the use of IT equipment.

Education & Qualifications
- A relevant degree level qualification, or relevant experience in a child wellbeing, protection and safeguarding role.
- Completion of the Scottish FA ‘Child Wellbeing in Scottish Football’ and ‘Managing Children’s Wellbeing’ courses.
- A full and clean UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Relevant training or experience in mental health and wellbeing, and/or a Mental Health First Aid qualification.
- The ability to provide counselling support to children and young people experiencing difficulties impacting upon their wellbeing.
