Job Description: Early Years Educator Apprenticeship
This childcare nursery is looking for a dynamic individual with a passion for early childhood development to join their friendly team. Your role will be supporting children aged 3 months to 5 years. You will be a key person for a small group of children, making learning fun and enjoyable, whilst maintaining close communication with parents and carers.
What You'll Do at Work
- Act as a key person to a group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
- Work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.
- Advise the manager of any concerns e.g. health and well-being of children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
- Teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.
- Ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures.
- Actively participate at team meetings, supervision meetings and appraisal meetings.
- Attend training courses as required and take responsibility for personal development.

What You'll Learn
Course contents include:
- Recognizing when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and acting to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
- Applying legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
- Applying the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
- Teaching children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
- Using a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
- Developing and maintaining effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
- Undertaking the role and responsibilities of key person.
- Recognizing and applying theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
- Providing sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
- Advocating for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.
- Promoting and facilitating children’s interpersonal communication to develop their social interactions and relationships.
- Supporting children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.
- Supporting children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours.
- Assessing the responsiveness of the environment for effective child-centred experiences in line with curriculum requirements.
- Creating inclusive, child-centred, dynamic, innovative, and evolving physical environments both indoors and outdoors.
- Creating inclusive and supportive emotional environment that enables the child to feel safe, secure, respected and experience a sense of wellbeing; maintaining and prioritising the individual child’s voice.
- Applying strategies that support children’s ability to manage change, transition, and significant events.
- Analysing observation evidence to assess and plan holistic individual learning based on a comprehensive understanding of the child’s needs and interests.
- Facilitating and supporting child-centred opportunities and experiences based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy.
- Providing adult led opportunities and experience based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy.
- Using reflection to develop themselves both professionally and personally.

Functional Skills Level 2 in maths and English if applicable
Desirable Qualifications:
- GCSE in English (grade 4)
- GCSE in Maths (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

- Passing a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
