Role Description
This is a part-time remote role for a Childcare Solicitor. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of public and private law children matters, including care proceedings, child protection issues, and contact and residence disputes.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Taking detailed instructions
- Advising clients on their rights and options
- Drafting applications, statements, and other court documents
- Conducting legal research to support robust case strategy
The role involves:
- Liaising with local authorities, guardians, counsel, and other professionals
- Preparing cases for hearings
- Representing clients in negotiations and, where appropriate, in court
The Childcare Solicitor will also be expected to:
- Maintain accurate file records
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and firm-wide procedures
- Contribute to the firm’s reputation for compassionate, high-quality client service
Qualifications
- Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent legal professional) with demonstrable experience in childcare law and family proceedings.
- Strong knowledge of public and private children law, relevant legislation, court rules, and best practices in safeguarding and child welfare.
- Excellent drafting and written advocacy skills, including the ability to prepare clear, persuasive statements, applications, and legal correspondence.
- Well-developed client care and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters and work with vulnerable clients in a calm, respectful manner.
- Effective case management, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a varied caseload while working remotely.
- Comfort with remote working tools, secure document management systems, and basic IT applications commonly used in legal practice.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with colleagues, counsel, and external agencies as required.
- Experience in a boutique or small firm environment, and familiarity with legal aid processes and funding, is advantageous.
