About The Team
The Participation Team is dedicated to ensuring the voices of children, young people and families directly influence how Hertfordshire’s services are designed and delivered. We champion meaningful involvement at every level, from individual care planning to shaping strategic service developments.
The Participation Team leads on engaging young people who have experienced a missing episode to undertake independent return home discussions, aimed at identifying contributing factors to their missing episodes, risk factors and devising a collaborative plan to be shared to support them to reduce these episodes and increase their safety. The discussions are shared with allocated workers where there is an open episode within Childrens Services, or are utilised to engage other support services where they are not currently known to Childrens Services.
You will be part of a passionate team working closely across the whole of Children’s Services, partners and community groups. The role is well-established but constantly evolving, offering the chance to contribute fresh ideas, innovate creatively, and help strengthen participation practice across the county.
This role ensures that children, young people and families are heard, valued and empowered to shape both their own care journeys and the development of services. You will work with children in care, care leavers, and those involved in Child in Need, Child Protection and Early Help services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
