Child Care Legal Assistant

Location: Pontypool
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

An excellent opportunity to join a specialist Child Care team

A well-established and highly regarded law firm is looking for an enthusiastic and organised Child Care Legal Assistant to join its busy and growing team in Pontypool. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Legal Assistant looking to develop their career within Children Law / Child Care, working alongside experienced solicitors on a varied caseload involving often complex and sensitive matters. The team represents parents, family members and children across a range of public and private law proceedings, including care proceedings, pre-proceedings work, Special Guardianship applications and matters involving Local Authorities and social services.

The Role

You will provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to the Child Care team, assisting fee earners with the day-to-day management of their caseloads. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting solicitors with the management of Child Care and Family Law matters
  • Preparing, drafting and formatting legal documents, court applications and correspondence
  • Accurately typing and transcribing dictation
  • Preparing court bundles and ensuring court deadlines and directions are complied with
  • Liaising with clients, Local Authorities, Cafcass, Courts, experts and other professionals
  • Managing correspondence and maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records
  • Handling telephone enquiries and arranging appointments and meetings
  • Opening and closing files and ensuring all administrative and regulatory requirements are met
  • Supporting fee earners with billing, Legal Aid administration and case management
  • Providing a professional, empathetic and sensitive service to clients, many of whom may be vulnerable

About You

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working within a legal environment, with experience in Family Law or Child Care Law particularly advantageous. You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a Legal Assistant or similar legal support role
  • An interest in developing your career within Children Law / Child Care
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to deal sensitively and professionally with vulnerable clients
  • Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
  • A proactive, adaptable and positive approach
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and legal case management systems
  • Previous Legal Aid experience would be beneficial but is not essential
