Role Description
The Children Residential Support Worker is a full-time, on-site role based in St Albans. This role involves providing day-to-day practical and emotional support to children and young people in a residential setting, helping to create a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.

- Supporting daily routines
- Facilitating education and recreational activities
- Promoting positive behavior
- Contributing to individual care plans
- Maintaining accurate records
- Participating in reviews and meetings with professionals and families
- Following safeguarding and health and safety procedures
The Children Residential Support Worker will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, offering consistent, reliable support that encourages each young person’s growth and independence.
Qualifications
- Experience in support roles within children’s residential care or similar settings, including working effectively as part of a team of Support Workers.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting, professional relationships with children, colleagues, and external partners.
- Knowledge of safeguarding principles and procedures, with a commitment to promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both verbal and written, including accurate record-keeping and report writing.
- Basic technical support skills and comfort using digital systems for care records, communication, and training.
- Relevant qualification in social care, childcare, or a related field (e.g., NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Children and Young People) or willingness to work towards it.
- Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, with resilience and emotional maturity when managing challenging situations.
- Understanding of therapeutic approaches and trauma-informed practice, or willingness to undertake training in these areas.
