Role Description

The Children’s Home Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Oxford Area, responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of a residential children’s home. The role includes:

  • Overseeing care plans
  • Ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of children and young people
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and regulatory compliance
  • Leading and supporting a multidisciplinary staff team through supervision, training, and performance management, fostering a positive and therapeutic environment
  • Managing budgets
  • Coordinating with external agencies
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Preparing for inspections and reviews
  • Active participation in rota planning
  • Incident management
  • Continuous service improvement to ensure the home operates safely and effectively

  • Demonstrated experience managing or supervising in a children’s residential care setting, with strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding, child protection procedures, and relevant UK regulations and standards (e.g., Ofsted frameworks, Children’s Homes Regulations).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, and professional partners.
  • Strong organizational, record-keeping, and report-writing skills, including the ability to manage budgets, rotas, and compliance documentation.
  • Relevant professional qualification, such as Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards this), and previous experience in social care or child-focused services.
  • Ability to work on-site on a full-time basis, respond effectively to emergencies, and maintain resilience in a demanding, emotionally complex environment.
  • Enhanced DBS check and eligibility to work in the UK; a valid driving license is highly desirable for travel between services and partner agencies.
