Moving Minds Pilot — Primary School (North Tyneside)
Contract Freelance / self-employed — fixed-term

Fee £120 per session, to include prep and admin & reasonable travel expenses

About Moving Minds
Moving Minds is a trauma-informed, inclusive physical activity programme for primary-aged children who have SEMH needs, are neurodivergent, have experienced adversity, or find the full school day difficult to manage.
Delivered in small groups, it uses movement as a gateway to emotional regulation, relational safety and confidence, helping children reconnect with their bodies, express themselves, and build the skills they need to thrive.
This pilot is our first delivery of the programme, funded and run through Project Compass CIC, and will take place at a local primary school.
The role
We're looking for someone to deliver Moving Minds to a small group of children (roughly 6–8 pupils), twice a week for 6 weeks (12 sessions in total). Each session runs for around 35–5 minutes (then a calm transition back to class) and blends sensory-aware movement, emotional literacy and co-regulation activities.
Full session plans, activities and resources are provided, you don't need to design the programme, just bring the energy, warmth and skill to deliver it well and adapt it to the children in the room.

What you'll do
- Plan and deliver 12 sessions (2x per week for 6 weeks), using the session framework and resources provided
- Create a safe, predictable space for children who have SEMH needs, are neurodivergent, have experienced adversity, or find the school day difficult
- Keep brief notes after each session, and take part in a short end-of-pilot review to help us evidence impact for funders
What we're looking for
This is a small pilot, the right person needs to be able to run movement activities with children, and to do so with real care given the group we're working with.
- A recognised qualification or accreditation relevant to the role - e.g. a coaching qualification, teaching assistant qualification, a relevant degree, or similar
- Experience working with primary-aged children in a group setting (sports coaching, PE, dance, youth work, TA/teaching, or similar)
- Experience of, or training in, trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming approaches
- Confidence leading movement or physical activity sessions
- A warm, calm, adaptable manner, with strong relational skills and patience
- Currently holds a valid enhanced DBS check, ideally registered with the DBS Update Service - given the short turnaround for this pilot, we're not able to wait for a new DBS application to process
- Available to deliver sessions twice a week across the November–December term

Nice to have, but not essential for this pilot:
- Formal, accredited training in trauma-informed practice, SEND, therapeutic movement, or occupational therapy
- Paediatric first aid
- Experience with emotional regulation, SEMH or inclusion-focused programmes
Fee & practicalities
- £120 per session, inclusive of delivery, prep and a short written review note, paid by invoice (weekly or fortnightly, by agreement)
- Reasonable travel expenses reimbursed on top
- All equipment and kit provided - nothing to buy or bring
This is a fixed piece of work for the pilot - Project Compass CIC is a small, new organisation, so we can't promise ongoing work beyond the 6 weeks. But if the pilot is successful, there's real potential for it to grow into further paid work across more schools.
