Company Description

Break is a charity that walks alongside young people in or around care, and after they leave care, offering lifelong relationships that build confidence and create opportunities. The organization provides fostering, children’s homes, mentoring, therapeutic services, and leaving care support across East Anglia. Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Children’s Residential Support Worker role based in March. The role involves providing day-to-day practical and emotional support to children and young people living in a residential setting, helping them feel safe, listened to, and valued.

  • Supporting daily routines, such as education, activities, appointments, and mealtimes
  • Promoting independence and life skills
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Following safeguarding and care plans
  • Working closely with colleagues, external professionals, and families to ensure consistent, high-quality care
  • Participating in team meetings, training, and reflective practice
  • Contributing to a warm, stable home environment that supports the wellbeing and development of each young person

Qualifications

  • Experience working as Support Workers or in similar caring roles supporting children, young people, or vulnerable individuals
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills, including empathy, patience, and the ability to build trusting, professional relationships with young people and colleagues
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of Safeguarding principles and procedures, with a commitment to promoting safety and wellbeing
  • Effective Communication skills, both written and verbal, for engaging with young people, families, and professionals, and for accurate record-keeping
  • Basic Technical Support and digital literacy skills to use care recording systems, email, and other relevant tools
  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards), or equivalent care-related qualification
  • Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, as required for a residential service
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and therapeutic approaches, or willingness to undertake training
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice, respecting the backgrounds and identities of all young people
  • Valid driving license and access to transport may be beneficial for supporting activities and appointments
