About Us:
Swindon Borough Council is undergoing an exciting transformation to improve service delivery and enhance the quality of life for its residents. Guided by the ambitious Swindon Plan, the council is committed to delivering better public services and processes, with the community at the heart of every decision. A key focus is reducing the number of children entering care through innovative approaches like the new adolescent offer and edge of care work, supported by strong multi-agency partnerships. The implementation of the Family Safeguarding Model in 2022 marks a significant shift in child protection, promoting a whole-system, multi-disciplinary approach that helps children remain safely within their families. This model emphasizes collaboration and community-based support. Additionally, the council invests in professional development through its expanding ASYE programme and Social Care & Leadership Academy, offering mentoring, manageable caseloads, and quality supervision. This is a great opportunity to join a forward-thinking local authority making a real difference in the lives of children and families.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
