We are currently recruiting for a Choice Based Lettings Officer to join our Housing Solutions Team. This is a permanent, part-time opportunity working 18.5 hours per week within a dynamic and customer-focused service committed to preventing homelessness and helping residents access suitable housing solutions.

About the Role

As a Choice Based Lettings Officer, you will play a key role in delivering an efficient and responsive housing allocations service. You will:

  • Assess housing applications
  • Manage the housing register
  • Provide advice and support to customers
  • Ensure properties are allocated fairly and in accordance with legislation, policy and local procedures

Working closely with applicants, partner landlords, colleagues and external agencies, you will help people access appropriate housing opportunities while contributing to the Council's vision of creating a stronger, safer, healthier and more sustainable borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver an effective, efficient and sensitive Choice Based Lettings service
  • Assess housing applications and verify applicants' housing circumstances and support needs
  • Undertake occasional home visits where required
  • Determine eligibility for the housing register in accordance with the Council's Allocations Policy
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Choice Based Lettings scheme, ensuring properties are advertised and allocated fairly and efficiently
  • Provide high-quality advice and support to customers
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Respond to enquiries
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the service

Person Specification

We are looking for a motivated, resilient and customer-focused individual with:

  • Experience working in a housing, customer service or public sector environment
  • Experience carrying out home visits and assessing customer needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach
  • The ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise tasks and make informed decisions
  • Strong organisational, investigative and problem-solving skills
  • Experience of working with vulnerable customers and handling sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
  • An NVQ Level 2 qualification, or an equivalent relevant qualification
