Role Title: C&I Physical Integration Lead – System of Systems (SoS)
We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
The integration of multiple complex systems is critical to the successful delivery of the SMR power station. As the programme develops, ensuring that physical, electrical, communications and infrastructure interfaces are effectively coordinated and integrated is fundamental to delivering a safe, operable and high-performing plant.
About the Role:
As a C&I Physical Integration Lead, you will be responsible for defining, coordinating and assuring the physical integration of constituent systems within a complex System of Systems environment.
You will work closely with system architects, design authorities, engineering teams, suppliers and delivery partners to ensure that physical, electrical, communications, infrastructure and operational interfaces are effectively designed, implemented and verified.
The role spans the full lifecycle from design and integration planning through to testing, commissioning and acceptance, providing technical leadership to ensure that multiple engineering disciplines come together to deliver an integrated and operationally effective solution.
We’ll Need You To:
- Lead the technical planning and execution of physical integration activities across the System of Systems
- Define, manage and assure physical and infrastructure interfaces between systems, equipment and operational environments
- Work with systems designers to specify physical plant layout requirements and oversee implementation
- Ensure integration solutions align with system architecture, requirements and engineering standards
- Support design reviews, integration readiness assessments and technical assurance activities
- Identify and resolve integration issues, technical risks and constraints
- Coordinate verification, validation, testing and commissioning activities across engineering disciplines
- Maintain configuration control and ensure traceability between requirements, design, implementation and acceptance evidence
- Provide technical leadership to engineering teams and suppliers on integration-related matters
- Support delivery of integration strategies, plans and interface management documentation
- Drive successful progression through integration, testing and commissioning milestones

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
