Ready to shape a GCP-first cloud strategy across CIB globally?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

The Head of CIB Cloud is a Director level role accountable for the strategy, governance, engineering standards, adoption and operational management of cloud services across all CIB functions globally. Working closely with the central CTO Cloud team you’ll build a consistent, resilient and cost-effective cloud capability with a strong focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) alongside broader cloud services, supporting platform build, adoption and standardisation. Acting as the primary cloud face-off for CIB Technology, business stakeholders, central CTO functions and relevant control and regulatory forums you’ll ensure cloud services support business priorities while meeting HSBC’s risk appetite, resilience expectations, regulatory obligations and technology standards. You’ll set a clear target state for cloud adoption, platform usage, operating models and engineering capability across CIB and establish common practices that enable engineers to work consistently across cloud platforms and services. Success means measurable progress against cloud strategy and target state, improved visibility and optimisation of cloud expenditure and strong operational performance.

What you'll be doing

  • Define and execute the CIB cloud strategy aligned to wider CTO, CIB and Group technology strategies
  • Establish the target state for cloud adoption, platform usage, operating models and engineering capability across CIB functions globally
  • Set objectives and measurable results across direct and virtual teams and act as the escalation point for cloud incidents, risks and delivery decisions
  • Own the CIB FinOps agenda including budgeting, forecasting, chargeback or showback, cost allocation and optimisation outcomes
  • Oversee cloud infrastructure and service management to meet standards for availability, capacity, performance, resilience, recoverability and operational support
  • Govern the CIB cloud risk and control agenda including risk assessments, control design, testing, issue management and remediation
  • Represent CIB Technology in regulatory engagements, audits and information requests relating to cloud services and infrastructure
  • Shape cloud solutioning and architecture governance, promoting standardised patterns, infrastructure as code, automation, observability and secure-by-design practices

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
