What difference will you make?
This role will play an important part in strengthening United We Climb’s capacity, sustainability and long-term impact. As a community-led CIC entering our next stage of development, we are focused on building the strong foundations, governance and ways of working needed to support continued growth while staying true to our values.
Your contribution will help us increase organisational capacity, strengthen decision-making and develop the systems and approaches that allow our work to grow in a sustainable and considered way. By bringing your experience, insight and perspective as a voting director, you will help us build greater resilience, respond effectively to opportunities, and continue developing meaningful partnerships and community-led programmes.
Ultimately, your involvement will help us continue removing barriers and creating greater access, belonging and opportunities for people from communities who have traditionally been excluded from climbing and the outdoors. You will be helping to shape an organisation that is not only impactful today, but equipped to sustain and deepen that impact into the future.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a thoughtful, collaborative and values-led person who wants to use their skills and experience to contribute to meaningful social change and help shape the next chapter of United We Climb.
The most important thing is that you are motivated by our purpose and are comfortable contributing as part of a small, community-led organisation. You do not need previous trustee or director experience, and you do not need to have a background in climbing. We are particularly interested in people who can bring relevant professional experience, fresh perspective and a willingness to contribute practically as well as strategically.

We would particularly welcome experience in one or more of the following areas
- Finance – including financial management, budgeting, financial planning or experience of finance within a social impact, charity or CIC environment.
- Fundraising and income generation – including grant applications, fundraising strategy, partnerships, sponsorship or developing sustainable income.
- Digital and technology – including digital systems, technology, data, websites or using technology to improve organisational capacity.
- Governance and organisational development – including governance, policies, risk, compliance, strategic decision-making or building effective organisational structures.
We are particularly interested in people who can help us strengthen our organisational capacity and sustainability as we enter our next stage of development. This could include helping us build stronger systems and processes, develop sustainable income, strengthen governance, and support effective strategic decision-making.
We value lived experience alongside professional expertise. Our organisation is intentionally community-led, and our team includes people from a range of diverse and underrepresented communities. We particularly welcome applications from people who have personal experience of barriers to accessing climbing, the outdoors or other spaces and opportunities, including intersecting barriers. However, no particular lived experience is a requirement for the role.

What will you be doing?
We are a small, engaged and hands-on board supporting a growing Community Interest Company (CIC) at an important stage in our development. We are seeking a Volunteer Director to join us as a full voting member of the board, working alongside the founder, existing directors and community team.
You will contribute to strategic direction, governance and organisational decision-making, helping us maintain focus, prioritise effectively and navigate key opportunities and challenges as we continue to develop.
This is an active and collaborative board role. Alongside contributing to board discussions and decisions, there is scope to provide practical input where your experience is most valuable. This may include supporting areas such as finance, fundraising, digital systems, partnerships or organisational development.
The role can be shaped around the strengths and interests of the successful candidate, with opportunities to take ownership of a particular area of focus or support specific priorities as they emerge.
