The CIS Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, support, patching, and fault resolution of critical IT infrastructure within highly secure and regulated environments. The role requires a security-first approach to infrastructure management, ensuring systems remain compliant, available, and operational whilst adhering to strict security, change management, and operational procedures.
The successful candidate will possess significant experience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments and be capable of independently troubleshooting complex technical issues, implementing approved changes, and maintaining systems in accordance with security and compliance requirements.
A key focus of the role is the delivery of infrastructure patching activities, proactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and service restoration across secure environments where availability, integrity, and security are critical.
What you will do:
- Perform routine infrastructure patching, updates, and maintenance activities across server, network, and supporting infrastructure platforms.

- Support and maintain secure IT environments in accordance with established security policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Monitor infrastructure health, identify risks, and proactively address potential issues before they impact service availability.
- Participate in incident management activities, including root cause analysis and implementation of preventative measures.
- Work within strict change control processes to plan, document, test, and implement infrastructure changes.
- Support infrastructure technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualisation platforms, storage systems, and network infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, asset records, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, service desk personnel, and operational stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.
- Assist with infrastructure projects, upgrades, technology refresh programmes, and system improvements.
- Support compliance and security audits by ensuring systems are maintained to required standards.
- Escalate complex technical issues where appropriate while maintaining ownership through to resolution.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
