The postholder will be able to work from home, however, it is a requirement to attend our offices or sites within Warwick District as required. Normally we would expect a higher level of time in the office to start with as part of onboarding and getting to know the team. Any costs for travel from home to the office will be met by the successful candidate. However, hybrid and office working is also available.

About WDC, the team, and the Role

The Civic & Committee Services Team provide essential support for the Council in the delivery of its formal Council, Cabinet, and Committee meetings, ensuring these are delivered lawfully and in line with the Council’s Constitution. The team provide support to Councillors in their role, including Member development and training. The Team also provide the support to the Chair of the Council in respect of attending and arranging civic functions.

This is a new role to work alongside and in partnership with the other Civic & Committee Services Manager who is already in post, and is part of a commitment to further increase resources within the team.

What we are looking for

An individual with over five years’ experience in delivering evening Council, Cabinet, and Committee meetings, who is proactive and wants to help further develop the high performing team through best practice leadership and management skills.

The successful candidate will also have a desire to both develop the team and themselves through appropriate learning opportunities.

Main responsibilities

The primary responsibility for this role will be to job share with the Civic & Committee Services Manager, who is in post, the overall management of the team and its functions.

This will include line management, the management of Council, Cabinet, and Committee meetings and governance of these meetings.

The post holder will also need to be providing professional advice and support to elected Members and officers.

There will also be an element of contract management work in managing contracts within the team, as well as other leadership roles across both the Service Area and the Council as a whole.

The successful applicant will need to be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or have equivalent relevant professional experience, knowledge, and experience gained through a minimum of five years’ experience of democratic services within local government.

They will also need to have demonstrable experience of managing or supervising staff within an operational service area.

Overview of the Team

The Civic & Committee Services Team form part of the Governance Service Area.

The wider team provides core support for the Council in respect of electoral administration, policy management, complaint handling, performance reporting and development, and corporate support for the Council.
