Civil & Structural Design Engineer

Location: Manchester - Hybrid

Position: Contract - Outside IR35

Sector: Power Transmission | Substations | HVDC

Turner Lovell is recruiting for an experienced Civil & Structural Design Engineer to join a leading organisation delivering major electricity transmission infrastructure across the UK.

This position will support the delivery of substations and HVDC infrastructure projects, taking ownership of civil and structural design packages and working closely with electrical, mechanical, procurement, and construction teams.

The role would suit an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer who is comfortable both producing designs and providing technical oversight of work delivered by internal teams and external design consultancies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of civil and structural design packages across major substation and HVDC infrastructure projects.
  • Provide design governance and review work produced by internal engineers and external design consultants.
  • Develop technical scopes, Scope of Works documents, and design tender packages.
  • Manage design deliverables, interfaces, programme, and technical requirements.
  • Support procurement and construction teams with technical input throughout project delivery.
  • Review designs for compliance with contractual requirements, relevant standards, CDM Regulations, and Building Regulations.
  • Provide technical support during construction and occasionally attend site to resolve design-related issues.

Required Experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience across both civil and structural design within a civil/structural engineering consultancy or design environment.
  • Experience delivering multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, ideally within power transmission, substations, or HVDC.
  • Experience using structural design software such as Tedds, STAAD.Pro, MasterSeries, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations 2015, relevant British/European design standards, and Building Regulations.
  • Experience reviewing calculations and designs produced by other engineers or external consultancies.
  • Strong multidisciplinary coordination and stakeholder management skills.
