FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading contractor in the UK water sector for an experienced Civil Design Engineer to join their engineering team based in Peterborough, with hybrid working available.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Civil Design Engineer with experience in water, wastewater, utilities or civil engineering to join a well-established engineering team. You will be responsible for producing high-quality, cost-effective civil designs while working collaboratively with multiple engineering disciplines to support the successful delivery of water infrastructure projects.

Civil Design Engineer Role
- Provide high-quality civil engineering design services across a range of water and wastewater projects.
- Produce practical and cost-effective design solutions that meet project specifications and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
- Coordinate civil designs with other engineering disciplines to ensure an integrated approach throughout the project lifecycle.
- Produce technical design documents, layouts and drawings in accordance with relevant specifications and industry standards.
- Work closely with the Senior Civil Engineer and wider project teams to support successful project delivery.
- Ensure designs fully consider health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, procedures and design standards.

Civil Design Engineer Responsibilities
- Produce cost-effective civil design layouts in accordance with project specifications and requirements.
- Ensure standard engineering practices and solutions are utilised wherever appropriate.
- Coordinate designs with internal and external engineering disciplines to ensure designs are fully integrated.
- Prepare and develop engineering drawings, design documentation and technical information.
- Provide engineering estimates and technical feedback to support project proposals where required.
- Review existing engineering procedures and processes, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and update procedures to support the efficient operation of the engineering department.
- Ensure all designs consider environmental requirements and potential impacts.
- Ensure health and safety requirements are incorporated throughout the design process.
- Work collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders to deliver practical engineering solutions.
- Support a customer-focused approach, ensuring designs meet both project and end-user requirements.
Civil Design Engineer Requirements
- Minimum HNC/HND qualification in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.
- Relevant experience within Civil Engineering and design.
- Understanding of water and wastewater treatment principles.
- Previous experience within the water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure sectors would be highly desirable.
- Ability to develop and rationalise designs to produce practical and economical layouts.
- Ability to interpret and manage a range of technical information and project requirements.
- Confident in presenting technical proposals and engineering solutions clearly and effectively.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Good level of computer literacy.
- Strong awareness of health, safety and environmental considerations within engineering design.
- Flexible and proactive approach with strong problem-solving capabilities.
