This is an opportunity to work on Civil Design solutions across water and wastewater projects, supporting delivery from initial concept and site survey through detailed design, construction and commissioning.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, developing practical and buildable solutions across reinforced concrete structures, foundations, slabs, retaining structures, tanks, channels and associated infrastructure.
With in-house technical design, project delivery, off-site manufacturing and modular build capability, WGM offers the opportunity to work close to delivery and see how your design decisions translate into real site outcomes.
WGM Engineering has been delivering practical engineering solutions for more than 40 years and is experiencing significant growth across the UK water, utilities and essential infrastructure sectors. We combine in-house technical expertise, off-site engineering capability and a strong self-delivery model to achieve safe, efficient and sustainable outcomes for our clients.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop civil engineering concepts into practical, buildable design solutions.
- Produce civil design calculations, technical documentation and design deliverables.
- Design and assess reinforced concrete structures, foundations, slabs, retaining structures, tanks and channels.

- Manage defined civil design packages from concept through detailed design and construction support.
- Work collaboratively with Process, Mechanical, Electrical and Construction teams.
- Support site teams with technical queries and design-related problem solving.
- Apply relevant Eurocodes, British Standards, client specifications and CDM 2015 requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to DfMA, standardisation and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in civil engineering design.
- Experience designing reinforced concrete structures and foundations.
- A good understanding of structural principles, Eurocodes and CDM 2015.

- Strong communication, problem-solving and multidisciplinary working skills.
- A full UK driving licence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
