FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the water sector for experienced Civil Design Engineers to strengthen their engineering team in their Peterborough office, with hybrid working available.

Civil Design Engineer Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Senior Civil Engineer and provide high-quality engineering design services across turnkey and engineering services contracts.
  • Produce cost-effective civil engineering design layouts that meet project specifications and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
  • Coordinate civil designs and produce accurate design documentation and technical drawings.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant health and safety requirements, specifications, standards and contractual requirements.
  • Apply standard engineering practices wherever possible to ensure consistency and efficiency across projects.
  • Provide estimates and technical feedback to support the proposals department.
  • Work in accordance with established procedures and processes, contributing to the continued development of the engineering department.
  • Monitor and review engineering procedures and processes, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop, update and maintain efficient procedures to support the smooth running of the department.
  • Coordinate designs with all other internal and external disciplines to ensure the design process is fully integrated across the contract.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, clients and other stakeholders to deliver effective engineering solutions.
  • Maintain a strong customer-focused approach, recognising both external clients and internal departments as key stakeholders.
  • Ensure environmental considerations are incorporated into engineering design solutions.
  • Ensure all designs fully consider health, safety and environmental requirements throughout the design process.
  • Support the delivery of practical, economical and technically robust solutions across water and wastewater projects.

Civil Design Engineer Requirements

  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • A relevant Engineering degree would be desirable.
  • Extensive experience within civil engineering.
  • Understanding of water and wastewater treatment principles.
  • Proven ability to rationalise designs and develop economical and effective plant layouts.
  • Ability to interpret and assimilate large volumes of technical and project information.
  • Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to present proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.
  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with relevant engineering design software.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety, environmental standards and engineering quality.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within the water and wastewater sector.
  • Experience working on turnkey or engineering services contracts.
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering designs.
  • Knowledge of relevant water sector standards, specifications and design practices.
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement of engineering procedures and processes.
