About the Opportunity
An established residential housebuilder is looking to appoint an experienced Civils Designer to join its technical team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded civil engineering professional with experience in residential development, particularly the design and delivery of roads, drainage, sewers and external works.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the design and technical delivery of new residential developments, working closely with internal teams, consultants, contractors and statutory authorities.
The Role
As a Civils Designer, you will be responsible for producing and coordinating civil engineering designs for residential developments from concept through to construction. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing residential estate roads, including horizontal and vertical alignments.
- Designing surface water and foul drainage systems and adoptable sewers.
- Preparing external works and infrastructure layouts.
- Producing detailed engineering drawings suitable for construction.
- Working with levels, gradients and site constraints to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Preparing and reviewing drainage strategies and engineering layouts.
- Coordinating civil designs with architects, house types, landscaping and other technical disciplines.
- Liaising with external civil engineering consultants and contractors.
- Assisting with the preparation and review of Section 38 and Section 104 submissions.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and adoption requirements.
- Reviewing technical information and identifying potential design issues before construction.
- Supporting the technical team throughout the planning, design and construction stages of developments.
- Attending site meetings where required and assisting with resolving technical queries.
- Reviewing consultant and contractor drawings to ensure they meet project requirements.

Essential Experience
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Civil Engineer, Civils Designer, Infrastructure Engineer or similar.
- Strong experience within the housebuilding or residential development sector.
- Proven experience designing estate roads, foul and surface water drainage, adoptable sewers, external works, levels and earthworks, and residential infrastructure.
- Good knowledge of relevant UK civil engineering and highway standards.
- Experience with Section 38 and Section 104 processes.
- Experience coordinating designs with other technical disciplines.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify practical engineering solutions.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.
Technical Skills
Experience with relevant civil engineering design software is required, ideally including:
- AutoCAD
- Civil 3D
- MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage
- Other relevant infrastructure and drainage design packages

A strong understanding of residential development design principles and technical approval processes would be highly advantageous.
Qualifications
A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or a related discipline is desirable. Relevant professional experience within residential development will also be considered.
