The Service & Team:
As a Civil Parking Enforcement Officer, you will patrol streets and car parks across Cornwall, helping to ensure that parking restrictions are followed fairly and consistently. You will issue Penalty Charge Notices where appropriate, provide advice and guidance to motorists, and support wider community protection work such as school patrols, community events, and abandoned vehicle investigations.
This is a physically active role involving walking, standing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions. You will also need to be confident working alone, using safety equipment, and dealing calmly and professionally with challenging situations.
We have a number of full-time roles available, with bases countywide.
The Role:
- Patrol & Enforcement: Carry out routine patrols, enforcing parking regulations, and promoting compliance.
- Customer Engagement: Provide advice and support to the public, helping motorists understand parking policies.
- Issuing Notices: Investigate and issue Penalty Charge Notices when necessary, ensuring fair enforcement.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Use safety equipment correctly and support colleagues in incidents.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with fellow officers and supervisors to maintain service consistency.
- Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in initiatives to enhance service quality and efficiency.
- Additional duties: Develop skills to support machine maintenance, abandoned vehicle inspections, and environmental patrols.
This is a public/customer-facing role where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
Starting Salary:
- The starting salary for this role is £26,597, with additional payments for Sundays, bank holidays, and other eligible working patterns.
- An accelerated progression scheme is in place, with salary rising to £28,567 following successful completion of probation and the City & Guilds qualification, usually within six months.
- Further annual progression is available up to the current top of grade of £31,869.
Working Pattern:
- Full-time — 37 hours per week on a rota basis, including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays as required.
- We would also welcome applicants interested in working predominantly evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
- Contracted times are between 8am and 8pm

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
