Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) Project
The Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) project currently involves the planning, design and construction of circa 320km of new strategic, large diameter, clean water interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure across Anglian Water’s region. The SPA Alliance is also taking on responsibility for the future interconnector pipelines, a further 260km of strategic interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure.
Role Overview
As a Civil Engineer you will provide designs which are innovative and deliver value for money whilst acting as a proactive problem solver by applying engineering principles. You will assist in reviewing and preparing a scope of works, methodology, programme, and resource estimate for implementing the design stage of the project and design support during construction.
This is a full-time fixed-term position with an expected duration until May 2027, with the potential of being extended. The role will be hybrid with attendance to the Peterborough office 2-3 days per month.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership to deliver design and associated activities in your section of the SPA programme of works, whilst understanding the importance of design interactions from Solutions, Production and Delivery.
- Work closely with team members to ensure project requirements are met.
- Develop commercial abilities by assisting with managing estimates, targets and forecasts for the design.
- Interface with our GI, Utilities and Environmental teams.
- Liaison with Temporary Works design.
- Enable accurate and timely information flow, such as response to Technical Queries etc.
- You will work with Supply Chain Designers, Offshore Designers, SPA Planners and Delivery Teams.
- Embrace digital transformation throughout design.
- You will support the Solutions, Engineering and Production teams with pioneering ideas to gain efficiencies.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement in Health & Safety (H&S), ensuring consistent H&S standards are maintained.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
- Civil design experience in the water industry.
- Experience of working on projects in a Design & Build environment.
- Leadership: Demonstrates compliance with the organisation's business ethics, a respectful attitude to others within the alliance, Anglian Water and customers, the need to protect our reputation, and integrity.
- Fosters good collaboration and communication with project teams.
- Effective personal and social skills, and champions diversity and inclusion.
- Awareness of the need to learn and an ability to identify their own learning and development needs.
- Ensures decisions are made in a timely manner, considering health & safety and commercial risk, and takes ownership.
- Strives to achieve efficiency in their engineering outputs.
Desirable
- Continuously strives to improve their engineering skills and ability.
- Contributes to the development of engineering documents, drawings and 3D models.
- Actively seeks and embraces innovation concepts to improve efficiency.
Qualifications
Essential
- A Civil Engineering degree, or equivalent.
- Working towards professional status, with a relevant institution such as the Institution Civil Engineers (ICE) or Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
Desirable
- Additional technically focussed qualifications / training.
- Safety passport or similar.
