The Opportunity
You’re a Civil Engineer in the buildings sector looking to develop your technical capability while gaining broader project exposure. At Stantec, you’ll join our Buildings team in Glasgow or Edinburgh, working on multidisciplinary projects from early feasibility through to construction. You’ll be part of a collaborative environment where civil engineering is fully integrated with other disciplines, giving you the opportunity to contribute to projects in a more joined-up and impactful way.
About The Role
You will support the delivery of civil engineering design across a range of development projects, contributing to work from concept through to detailed design and construction. You’ll be involved in preparing reports and drawings, as well as developing design solutions covering earthworks, roads, pavements, and drainage.
- You’ll work closely with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders, ensuring designs are coordinated and aligned with project objectives.
- This includes supporting submissions for approvals, engaging with local authorities, and contributing to the overall quality of project delivery.
- As you develop, you’ll take on increasing responsibility across project coordination, technical delivery, and client interaction, while also supporting junior team members and contributing to continuous improvement and innovation.
YOUR IMPACT
You’ll contribute to projects that shape how developments are planned and delivered, helping to ensure they are practical, compliant, and sustainable. Your work will support the integration of civil engineering solutions within wider project teams, influencing how sites function and perform long term.
Internally, your impact will be seen in your contribution to delivery quality and collaboration. As your experience grows, you’ll play a larger role in supporting others and strengthening team capability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
