Overview
Expleo is seeking a Civil Engineer to support the growth of our Marine business unit. The successful candidate will provide civil engineering expertise on a major defence infrastructure programme in Plymouth.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will support the implementation of civil and structural designs during the construction phase. You will act as an interface between design teams, construction teams and site stakeholders, reviewing designs, responding to technical queries and supporting concrete construction activities.
This role requires onsite attendance in Plymouth two to three days per week. Candidates must be sole British nationals.
Responsibilities
- Review civil and structural engineering designs, drawings, and supporting technical documentation.
- Support the implementation of approved designs during construction.
- Review and respond to site-based technical queries and design clarifications.
- Liaise with design teams, construction teams, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Support the identification and resolution of design and construction issues.
- Review construction documentation, technical submissions, and inspection records.
- Support the review of inspection and test plans, method statements, and construction procedures.
- Undertake site visits and provide technical support to construction activities.
- Support the management of design changes and non-conformances where required.
- Communicate construction feedback and lessons learned to the relevant design teams.
- Work in accordance with applicable engineering, safety, quality, and project governance processes.

Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
Essential Skills
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Good understanding of civil and structural engineering principles.
- Ability to review engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Ability to understand and respond to site-based technical queries.
- Good knowledge of construction activities and engineering implementation.
- Effective communication with design, construction, and project stakeholders.
- Ability to identify technical issues and support their resolution.
- Good written communication and technical reporting skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- A practical and safety-conscious approach to engineering delivery.
Desired Skills
Ideally, candidates will be able to demonstrate one or more of the following:
- Knowledge of reinforced concrete design and construction.
- Understanding of inspection and test plans.
- Familiarity with technical queries, change requests, and non-conformance processes.
- Understanding of construction method statements and temporary works.
- Familiarity with design assurance, configuration control, or engineering governance processes.
Experience
Required Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of three years’ relevant post-graduate engineering experience.
- Experience reviewing civil or structural engineering designs.
- Practical site experience, including dealing with technical queries and design clarifications.
- Experience supporting construction or design implementation activities.
- Experience of concrete construction.
- Experience working with designers, contractors, and other technical stakeholders.
