Civil Engineer (Intermediate or Senior)

The opportunity

With exciting projects ahead, we are seeking an exceptional Intermediate or Senior Civil Engineer to provide Civil Engineering services in one of our Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch offices. Your skills will also complement our team of water specialists, environmental engineers, hydraulic modellers, and scientists in the fields of water infrastructure and land development.

Key responsibilities

  • Civil engineering design (stormwater, wastewater, water supply, earthworks, roading) for land development and infrastructure projects.
  • Preparation of technical engineering reports and calculations.
  • Project management to help ensure projects are to scope, budget, and schedule. A senior role would include full ownership of more complex projects.
  • Client management (regular communication, project updates).
  • Construction site inspections.
  • Contribute to building Awa's capability and culture.

Senior role would also include

  • Owning a client project portfolio or contributing to client strategy, developing existing and new client relationships.
  • Winning new work through existing or new clients, preparation of proposal and contracts.
  • Guiding, leading, training, and mentoring intermediate and junior staff.

About You

Are you passionate about contributing to building great spaces for people and communities to live, work, and play in? Within this context, are you looking to work alongside other industry professionals to develop further as a civil engineer by working on a wide range of opportunities ranging from land development to three waters infrastructure design? Do you have a heart for people and the environment? If this sounds like you, we’d love to talk.

What we’re looking for

We welcome candidates with track record in most or all the following:

  • An intermediate engineer with 3 - 6 years of experience, or a senior engineer with 7 – 13 years of experience
  • Experience in AutoCAD / Civil 3D design
  • Experience with other software such as HY-8, HEC-HMS, SSA, EPANET
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • A robust engineering background
  • A genuine interest in Te Ao Māori
  • An adaptive and nimble mindset, able to work fluidly across offices & people
  • Pragmatic and hands-on, focused on great outcomes and company growth
  • For the senior role, we are looking for someone with strong commercial acumen.
