Murphy is looking to recruit the next generation of civil engineers. We are looking to appoint highly motivated degree apprentices with strong aspirations to pursue an engineering career within a leading UK civil engineering & construction organisation. Our civil engineering works cover a wide range of engineering activities, such as tunnelling, rail projects, heavy civils, drainage works, bridge repair, and replacements.

Our degree apprenticeship programme offers you the chance to secure a university degree debt-free, whilst gaining invaluable on-the-job experience. Your tuition fees for this degree will be paid for by Murphy and you’ll also be earning a competitive apprenticeship salary.

Working as an apprentice civil engineer you will learn how to be responsible for the daily control, management, and coordination of construction activities on site to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the required safety, environmental, and quality standards. Your responsibilities will increase throughout the duration of the apprenticeship programme as your skills and technical knowledge develop. You will be supported throughout by your assigned apprenticeship mentor, in conjunction with your university apprenticeship tutor, to ensure you gain the right mix of skills and experience to successfully complete your apprenticeship.

As a Civil Engineer apprentice, you will be placed on one of our many UK construction sites and be involved in the different site activities, where you will be exposed to:

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
