Launch your career in civil engineering through a dynamic role offering exposure to estimating, planning, procurement, site operations, quantity surveying, design and build, and health and safety. Gain hands-on experience on real projects while building the skills to become a confident, well-rounded professional.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The Level 4 Civil Engineering Senior Technician is designed for an organised and proactive individual ready to support the full lifecycle of construction projects.

Working closely with supervisory and technical teams across both office and site environments, you will play a key role in project coordination by liaising with internal and external stakeholders, keeping accurate communication records, and assisting in the development of project tenders within tight deadlines. You will use technical drawings to produce resource lists, assist in procuring materials and subcontractors, and help implement cost-monitoring systems to provide early warnings of potential issues.

Finally, you will help keep projects on schedule and on budget by maintaining accurate contractual records and utilizing surveying information to measure, evaluate, and review overall project performance.

The key duties and responsibilities of the apprenticeship are:

  • Helping to liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the requirements of a project are met, ensuring records of the communications are kept in line with company processes
  • Assisting labourers and gangers with site-based activities such as the running of onsite equipment, storing and handling materials and resources and completing timesheets
  • To assist in ensuring sufficient planning has been carried out for tasks to be completed safely
  • Assisting the progress of construction projects and helping with the planning of schedules of work
  • Helping to ensure accurate contractual records are kept in relation to the planning of projects
  • Supporting the implementation of appropriate contract quantities and cost monitoring systems to provide early warning of problems for all contract phases on site
  • Assisting with the procurement of project materials, plant and subcontractors
  • Assisting with the coordination of construction site-based projects alongside supervisory and technical teams on an individual site, a range of sites or in an office environment
  • Assisting with the production of resource lists, based on estimates, using technical drawings to identify the requirements of the project
  • Assist with the development of tenders relevant to the construction project, ensuring records of tenders are kept and processed within the required timescales
  • Helping to use surveying information to contribute to the measurement, evaluation and review of project performance

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
