Highway Engineering Technician

About the role

As an experienced highway engineering technician, you will play a key part in the successful delivery of our highway, active-travel and wider transportation infrastructure projects. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across our UK and Ireland offices and be supported by a team of highly skilled professionals.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Producing accurate engineering models, drawings and detailing for highways, junctions, active-travel schemes, earthworks, drainage and related civil infrastructure
  • Preparing both concept and detailed design drawings in line with DMRB, local authority and client standards
  • Acting as project technician on multidisciplinary schemes
  • Reviewing drawings from third-party designers and contractors
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality engineering outputs
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members

Recent and ongoing projects

My client’s portfolio demonstrates both the scale and diversity of our transportation work. Examples include the delivery of a £120 million urban highway improvement scheme to ease congestion and support regeneration, a £95 million active-travel and bus priority corridor, multiple town-centre public-realm upgrades, major maintenance works on a strategic trunk road, a €150 million rural connectivity programme in Ireland, and numerous junction upgrades, greenways and cycle infrastructure schemes across the UK and Ireland.

Essential requirements

  • HNC (or equivalent) in civil engineering and/or EngTech or IEng accreditation with ICE
  • At least 4+ years’ experience in drafting and modelling highways or civil infrastructure
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and good working knowledge of highway design standards
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Highly motivated, adaptable and detail focused
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Strong teamwork ethic and willingness to take responsibility

Desirable

  • 3D modelling experience using AutoCAD or other design tools
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks or similar software
