Job Title: Civil Pipeline Engineer

We are currently seeking an experienced Civil Pipeline Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering major water and infrastructure projects across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pipeline engineer to provide technical leadership across projects from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design, construction and commissioning.

You will work alongside experienced engineers, project managers, and technical specialists to develop innovative pipeline engineering solutions while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with relevant standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of civil pipeline engineering design across complex infrastructure projects.
  • Manage and support teams of Civil Pipeline Engineers to deliver high-quality technical design packages.
  • Produce and review:
    • Design reports
    • Engineering calculations
    • Technical drawings
    • Technical specifications
    • Scopes of work
  • Deliver pipeline engineering solutions across feasibility, concept, detailed design, and construction support stages.
  • Design and assess pipeline systems, including new installations, rehabilitation, condition assessment, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure projects meet programme, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop integrated design solutions.
  • Provide technical mentoring and support to junior engineers.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical assurance, and engineering quality checks.
  • Ensure compliance with UK and international design standards, CDM Regulations, and project-specific requirements.
  • Provide technical input into bids, proposals, and tender submissions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
  • Proven experience delivering pipeline engineering design within a consultancy or multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Experience leading or coordinating pipeline engineering teams on complex infrastructure projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • Pipeline design
    • Pipeline construction methodologies
    • Rehabilitation and renewal
    • Pipeline condition assessment
    • Commissioning, operation, and maintenance
  • Thorough understanding of UK and international pipeline design codes and standards.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and health & safety legislation.
  • Experience producing technical calculations, reports, drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency with pipeline analysis and design software such as HADES, Varism, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while providing technical leadership and mentoring to others.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within the UK water sector.
  • Experience delivering large-scale utility or infrastructure pipeline projects.
  • Knowledge of trenchless installation and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Previous engineering consultancy experience.
  • Experience contributing to technical proposals, bids, and tender submissions.

About You

We are looking for a technically strong Civil Pipeline Engineer with excellent engineering judgment and a proven background in pipeline design and infrastructure delivery.

You should be confident working within multidisciplinary teams, comfortable engaging with clients and stakeholders, and capable of providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

A proactive, commercially aware, and solution-focused approach is important, together with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Job Details

This is a hybrid contract opportunity, with a minimum of three days per week in the office or on client sites.

The role can be based from:

  • Epsom
  • London
  • Peterborough
  • Cambridge

Travel to project locations will be required as necessary.
